Benefits of Piano Lessons

The Benefits of Piano Lessons for Children

If you are considering offering lessons of some sort to your children, then perhaps you should consider some of the common benefits of children playing piano. We all know and have heard that playing team sports can be beneficial to students but the benefits of children playing piano and other musical instruments are often overlooked in the rush to have sports programs approved in schools. The problem is the benefits of children playing piano aren't as well known even though they are equally beneficial.

There are many benefits of children playing piano that you may not even realize what they are. For example, most of us do not realize that our children would be less proficient with their mathematics and language skills if they had not had music lessons. We only know the skills they do have, not the ones that theybwould have had otherwise. By comparing the test scores of children who have had no musical training with those who have had extensive piano lessons and exposure to music it has been determined that playing piano increases a students understanding of math.

Perhaps the most profound of all benefits of children playing piano is the impact it has on a child's discipline. Piano is a very exacting instrument and it requires a great amount of attention to the most minute details and endless hours of performing the very same task over and over again in order to obtain perfection. This skill will help your child in every aspect of his or her life as he or she grows.

Other benefits of children playing piano include increased concentration. This is something that is hard for many people to understand. It is quite difficult to sit and idly play the piano. This is particularly true during the early learning process. Most people, even after years of playing are not able to sit down at the piano without providing some degree of concentration on what their fingers are doing. Playing the piano takes concentration and the longer you play, the more improved your ability to concentrate will become.

There are even more benefits of children playing piano. These benefits include the following: improved coordination, better posture, goal setting, improved reading, team playing (particularly if they learn duets and/or accompaniments), and an ability to multitask that will serve them well throughout their lifetime. Playing the piano is much more than it seems at first glance and it's important to keep that in mind when deciding whether or not the benefits of children playing piano are as profound as the benefits of children learning to play sports.
