Learning The Piano Teaching Business

Learning The Piano Teaching Business!

If you just want to teach piano there are many books available on the topic. It is important to remember however that teaching piano is more than teaching a student to read the notes and play them accordingly. There are many methods you can study in order to learn how to teach piano one of the most popular is the Suzuki method. This method is gaining popularity because the students learn by repeating the same steps over and over until the steps feel natural to the student. If you want to learn how to teach piano, this is definitely a teaching method worth learning, as many parents of eager students want this method for their child.

Some of the wonderful books that will help you learn how to teach piano include the following: How to Teach Suzuki Piano by Shinichi Suzuki, The Art of Teaching Piano by Joseph Banowetz, At the Beginning: Teaching Piano to the Very Young by Rhoda Rabin, and The Well-Tempered Keyboard Teacher by Marienne Uszler. While these books won't tell you everything you need in order to learn how to teach piano they are great places to begin your journey.

For those who are sincere in the desire to learn to teach piano, there are many things you can do. You can find a mentor that is willing to take you under his or her wing; you can contact a local community college or university (if you happen to live near one) and see if they offer courses specifically on teaching piano rather than playing piano. Most universities will for certain. You can also check into community organizations that might help you learn to teach piano in exchange for you offering free piano lessons on occasion to certain needy yet deserving children.

If you are strapped for cash, your local library can be an excellent resource for books and articles that will help you learn how to teach piano. In fact, you might be fortunate enough to find all the books I mentioned above at your local library and check them out at no cost to you rather than spending all of the money that could purchase supplies and tools for your business at Barnes and Noble on books.

There is a vast difference between being the student and being a teacher and many of us have long ago forgotten what our first piano lessons were like, particularly if you've been playing as long as some of us (really it hasn't been that long it just seems like it some days). You'll be amazed at how quickly those old exercises come back to you as well as the old sayings triggers that helped you remember your notes on the staff. These fun little things are as vital to your students as they once were to you and you will do your students the greatest service by keeping in mind the fun and wonder of discovering the many secrets of the piano and musical notations and sharing it with them as though you were giving them the secrets of the pyramids because in a way you are. Remember this when you are learning how to teach piano and your students will thank you years from now.
