Piano Studio
A Piano Studio (Home Away From Home)
A piano studio is a great addition to your home. Whether you are turning an existing room into a piano studio or building an addition to your home, this is a great way to bring your work home with you. A piano studio is also a great place to go and practice or write music without being disturbed by outside influences. In other words, it's a great place to go and feed your soul as a musician.
Teaching music is much simpler when done from the comforts of a piano studio. You have a sense of privacy for the student and some degree of soundproofing for the comfort of your neighbors. A piano studio doesn't have to be overly complicated. In fact, there are many that are quite simple in design and structure and many that are simple rooms within your home. Any room that has been equipped and set aside for the purpose of teaching piano lessons can fairly easily become the perfect studio. You will obviously need a piano; it doesn't necessarily have to be a Steinway or Yamaha piano or even a baby grand (these generally aren't ideal for teaching beginners to play at any rate and take up an incredible amount of space within your studio). Looking for materials, billing information, receipts for payments, etc. can waste a lot of time during and in between lessons. Organization is one of the many things that will maximize your time, minimize your expenses, and keep your business running at capacity. A smoothly running business is always more profitable and pleasurable.
It also helps your family understand that office supplies for your business are not community property. This alone often saves you from the need of going around collecting tape, scissors, pens, paper, and any other potential office supplies that might be confiscated by family members and not returned to its rightful place. I keep my work area locked when I'm not in it in order to prevent these exact situations from occurring.
Our ebook provides many tips about how to be more efficient in the running of your business as well as ways to help your business grow. Music teachers often shortchange themselves in their rates, time demands, and the general amount of time they give to their work. Remember that the time you are billing for goes beyond the hour of studio time you give your clients each week. You must also prepare for the lessons ahead of time and constantly work to keep students challenged and motivated. Your piano studio depends on your ability to operate a business in order to keep growing and provide a substantial income. ...
