Piano Teachers Association
Piano Teachers Association: (Membership has its privileges)
If you live in or around a large city you should really consider joining the piano teachers association. Becoming a member can provide many benefits that go well beyond meeting with other piano teachers and learning from their experiences. Membership allows your students to participate in special competitions, it allows you to receive special honors, and allows you to benefit from the many workshops that are held throughout the year. Even if you are a beginner, especially if you are a beginner, you have a lot to learn from your local piano teachers association.
It is important to keep in mind that your local piano teachers association should not intimidate you. This organization exists in order to assist teachers and can be an excellent resource if you use it wisely. It is important to consider that many areas will allow you to be a member if you are a music teacher or if you are a music student and a degree in music is not required. In addition to the higher status you will enjoy as a member of your piano teachers association you also have the opportunity to attend the brainstorming sessions, the monthly meetings, the workshops, and you have access to software and teaching aids that are available as a result of your membership. I remember the old American Express card commercial that mentioned membership having its privileges; this is one instance where there are few truer statements.
Even if you decide not to join it would be a good idea to at least attend a few meetings and see what they are about and what they have to offer their members. There is no time like the present to take steps to improve the state of your career as a piano teacher. Joining a piano teachers association is definitely a step in the right direc
