Teach Children To Play The Piano




When considering how to teach children to play the piano it is important to take note of the fact that there are many different and equally effective methods of teaching piano in existence. Some focus on reading music, learning notes and notations, and spending countless hours practicing scales. Others immerse the children in the learning process, teaching them to make music first and foremost. The best way how to teach children to play the piano is by teaching them how to play the piano. Most young children could really care less about the whys and wherefores of playing the piano. Teach them to play little songs they can recognize, this is how to teach children to play the piano.




Most people focus so much on how to play or how to teach others to play without necessarily focusing on the fact that there is a different approach that should be considered in order to understand how to teach children to play the piano. I always stress that learning and teaching are both individual to those in the process and that there is no one size fits all approach to either.




Really small children are often the easiest piano students' as they have no expectations. Their parents on the other hand might be the exception but small children are just as thrilled over getting a sticker for learning scales or playing with flash cards as they are about learning "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star". When studying the different ways how to teach children to play the piano be sure to remember that a healthy mix of theory and art is probably the best bet. We as teachers know how important music theory is. It is often tempting to spend so much time stressing that and forget that these lessons are supposed to also be fun for our students.




There is no perfect way to teach every student whether grown or incredibly young. The best you can do is engage in a process of trial and error. This will help you discover what works best for you as well as allowing your students the opportunity to help you discover how to teach children to play the piano. You will find that your students will teach you a few lessons along the way. Don't be afraid of the wonderful lessons they can teach you and for goodness sake, learn from them.
