Teach Music Lessons for Profit
A professional willing to teach music lessons is a rare and precious gem. This is often a thankless job but is a job that provides students with a foundation in the beauty of music and a finer appreciation for music than many ordinary citizens ever cultivate. Whichever instrument you choose to teach, I am sure you know that your students are not always as eager to learn, as you are to teach music lessons and that the actual teaching of any given instrument isn't all roses and sunshine. The best part is the knowledge that you have planted seeds in your student’s minds that hopefully either you or someone else will watch grow beautiful and exotic fruit someday. This, of course, is when your efforts to teach music lessons pay off.
In order to teach music lessons you must not only love music but also must love children (or adults if you choose to take adult students) and watching them learn. There is something about watching a musicians eyes as they play the instrument of their choice. You need to be able to eat and support your family from the profits that this pursuit brings. A business plan that allows for growth projections, timely rate increases, continuous advertisement of your services as well as how to build and maintain a waiting list so that students that are leaving your tutelage can be promptly replaced with new eager students.
All the music books, recitals, and talent in the world would be for naught without an effective business plan in place. Musicians understand harmony and dissonance, it is very important that you treat your business as a business or there will be a great amount of dissonance in your personal finances. Music teachers are somewhat unfortunate in that the lessons they provide often encroach on hours that are often set aside as family time since most students need to be seen after school and into the evening hours. As a result you need to be sure that you are honoring your time, as it deserves to be honored by charging an appropriate fee for the value of the time you spend teaching music lessons. You also need to be sure that you have a plan for your retirement as well.
