How long will it take to learn the piano?

By Sheryl ·

I’m 16 and have always wanted to play the piano but have always put it off. I am now considering becoming a music teacher and need to be able to play the piano. I would probably have a year and a half to two years. I play 2 other instruments and take music in school so I know the theory part of music. I am also quite good at keyboard and am willing to practice a lot. Would I be able to do it?

i started when i was 4 and i am now 16, and on grade 8, so yes i would say it takes quite a while but its not too late.
if you play keyboard then this will help you but sure give it a go!
im not sure if you will be able to have it up to a high enough standard in 18 months for music teaching but if you put in enough work and effort then you never know.
i wish you the best. :)

well. i started playing like half a year ago, and im 15. so its not too late for you. its never too late. im still on easy piano. but maybe its cuz i never read notes before it. cuz im starting to play clarinet now. and been playing it for 2/3 months only. and im better at it than piano already pbbly only cuz i already knew reading notes n counting and also i have band class everyday so i can practice daily. n get good at it fast. and the band plays at like a college level so i think thats pretty good since i can play a few songs already. so if you put your mind to it, yeah you definetly could learn to play the piano in that time. :D

Yes.

Start studying Piano right away and don’t just stop after 18 months, keep going.

In five years you could be quite good.

Get a tutor and you;ll be great. You already have one of the most enraging parts of it down. It is the second hand that is the most difficult part.

if you want to be a teacher(im assuming piano teacher?) i think you need a diploma(depending on what grade you want to teach).and the diploma is taken after grade8 in practical music which might take awhile(depending on whether you’re good enough to skip grades).the keyboard is a lot different than the piano because it has a different feel to it.

but if you take music in school, you have to pass a certain criteria right?so im sure if you are able to take music as a subject in school, you’d be able to learn fast and you already know music theory.and if you’re that determined to make it,im sure you can because it’s all about practice.
