I am 20 years old and when I was about 8 I took about a year of piano lessons but then my family moved so I just sort of stopped..I still have my piano and really LOVE the music and would like to start playing again..is it worth it..and will I look uhh stupid going to a piano instructor who no doubt mostly teaches children?

No it is not a bad idea. Also, if you cannot afford piano practicing by yourself will not kill you off.
You will need to teach yourself and study, study, .
Going back to piano is not a bad idea at any age.
Music is really good for anyone.

I get the biggest kick from playing along with CDs , religious music, praise music. Of course,
that is as close as I will ever get to public
playing due to my great age, overweight,
and being unattractive. It is worth it. It is
something to live for, love, a wonderful hobby and a way of praising the Lord.

I want to learn some classical and some
pop music. Not rock, just the easy listening.
I love classical and praise, worship , hymns.
I simply love music, music, music.

You are young for goodness sake. Could I afford
piano teachers I would have one myself and I am far older. I am learning piano and I have made tremendous progress. I can actually play. I am working on new arrangements for my timing. I had a few lessons young in elementary, and a little in hs. Then a very
few as a young adult. Most I have learned on my own and I wouldn’t quit unless they cut off my arms.

GO FOR IT double time. You won’t look stupid.
No time like the present.

I am sixty one years old, be 62. I have actually learned to play the piano fairly well in the past

two years. I have purchased a metronome and am working on my timing. I am also trying to add fullness to my chords. I can improvise.
Can go to the piano, pick out the tune, and write the music to some of it. I can play almost
any hymn in the hymnal. Some without practice.
Must work on the ’stuff’ which is written in an unusual style.
I can learn any piece if I work at it hard enough. I would love to have a teacher to
drive me, motivate me because I know I could do a lot better with some guidance, friendly critiques. I would like to be almost putty in a good teacher’s hands, one who also plays. I have an aptitude for music,
sense of rhythm, timing, and I love it. Music has always been a big part of my life.I never tire of it. I would play twenty-four seven.
It has saved my mind more than once, or what is left of it.

Get music. Get with it. Go for it.

Great idea, but I agree with angeles. Have you watched Mom teach children of this age? Parents should not stay unless she’s there. When
I first started at 13, there was a parent who flirted with me. My mom

let’s keep our verbs straight

Well, it really depends. I play Piano (I’m 13 years old). It’s only interesting to me when I get to play pieces that sound really cool and look complicated, so it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished more. If you just make kids do work and work and work for the piano, odds are they won’t like it. Also, have a piano that works. We had one that belonged to my great-grandma. Some of the important keys didn’t work, which was extremely frustrating and discouraging. When we finally got a better piano, I loved practicing because the songs actually sounded good! Although this might not be the case, it’s just a little note.

I have a newish East German baby grand that I inherited and don’t love and a 1965 Baldwin Acrosonic that needs restoration and has a small gouge in the cabinet, but that I have loved for years. I am debating whether I should sell the grand and restore the spinet, or sell both and buy a new acoustic or a new digital piano. I have two young boys that I would like to introduce to the piano, and I like to play and sing to entertain myself, family and friends. Any advice?

Here is my suggestion. I would definitely get rid of the baby grand, since you are not in love with it. I would keep the Baldwin Acrosonic, since you do love it. Actually it’s not a bad piano, and the Acrosonics I’ve seen have been very durable. Yet if you sold it in its current condition, you would be lucky to get $100 for it.

I would also suggest purchasing a digital piano. If you are willing to dish out $2,000 or more, you can get one that will suit you nicely. You can get a lot more features out of a digital piano than on an acoustic. This is a great benefit for teaching your children and entertaining friends. Many digital pianos have learning tools that are great for beginners. Some even have very realistic one touch chord accompaniments that are simple enough for a novice to sound great.

Keep in mind that no digital piano will sound exactly like an acoustic piano, but many are very close. I think that Roland digital pianos are the most "authentic." If you do go shopping for one, just try to play as many models as possible. Find one that has the feel, sound, and features that you would want.

Has anyone taught their child how to play a piano at 3 years old? My son shows a tremendous amount of interest in instruments and music. We got him a keyboard for Christmas. Do you think he’s too young to learn how to play? Would he understand what note is what? Do you think he’ll remember the tune we just taught him? He’s very bright. I just want to hear if anyone had any experiences with their child at this young age. Thank you!

You can buy him musical toys and try to develop this ability/interest, but I don’t think a 3 year old could learn to play a full size piano and read notes unless he were truly both a mental and physical prodigy. First of all, reading music is like reading another language–it requires both mathematics and verbal ability that usually isn’t there until about 1st or 2nd grade at the earliest. I suppose you could color code stuff if he knows his colors and get around some of this.

Second, to get past the most basic piano lessons will require quite a bit of finger dexterity and even finger "reach" to be able to use proper technique. Compensating for his small hand size will most likely require some accommodation of the music, the keyboard, and/or will require him to be retaught the proper technique later when his hands grow larger.

Find him a good preschool music experience class such as "Kindermusic" or other similar class offered in your community. If you are really serious, find a Suzuki method instructor and have him assessed for beginning this method of teaching. I think they do piano as well as violin. Be ready to shell out the bucks; it’s not cheap.

I’m a grade 7 pianist and thought for some extra money that I might start giving piano lessons to beginners, but do you think people would be willing to take lessons, or give their children lessons, if I’ll only be able to teach for a limited time?

As a piano teacher myself I would recommend not teaching the piano if you only plan to teach for a short amount of time. Parents like to know that if they dedicate their child to piano, that the teacher will be there for the long run. Plus if you didn’t tell them when they first started and then it came to the time when you wanted to stop, they might not be too happy. It is really important for a child to learn one way for the first few years before they switch teachers as it will be a confusing experience for them and might put them off music.

Maybe you could play in restaurants for money?? Or get a part time job? It will probably pay more than teaching piano as you need alot of students to get a good income.

withdrawn and do not like to talk or participate in any activities, however they have demonstrated a preference for music activities. In order to motivate the children to participate in any activities, however they have demonstrated a preference for music activities. In order to motivate the children to participate, the music therapist decides to use music in this manner:
a.Music as a carrier of information – the music therapist will write a song on how to participate
b.Music as a physical structure for learning- the music therapist will have the children dance
c.Music as a background for learning – the music therapist will play “happy” music in the background
d.Music as a reinforce – the music therapist will use client preferred music in the sessions and reward the children with opportunities to listen to their favorite piece of music if they participate
e.Music as a leisure skill – the music therapist will teach children how to play the piano

What the heck are you trying to ask?
