What degree is needed to teach music in california public schools?
I want to know how many years of schooling will be needed to teach, and what to major in. Is it possible to teach other things using these credentials?
Most commonly, a 4 year BSEd. (Bachelor of Science in Education) However, if you have a 4 year BS or BA not in Education, you can get a Post Graduate Certificate in Education, (usually 1 year) or a Master’s of Education, (2 years) which will include the necessary teaching courses and student teaching to become a teacher.

1st person had it right, BS in Education. If you get this degree you can not teach any other subject. Be aware though in college you will be forced to do 12-15 classes per semester and push 12-14 days in a classroom. You also have to do weekends as well. No time for partying and a lot of practice hours.
