14 year old teaching piano?
I am 14 and I am going into 9th grade this fall. I have been playing piano since I was about 6 years old. I have an interest in finding a job or doing something to earn money. I had a paper route, but quit because the pay was becoming bad and the company was going out of business.
Anyways, we have a few family friends each has a young boy. One is going into 1st grade and the other I think is going into 3rd grade or 4th grade. My mom says I could teach them and they would be willing to pay me. I don’t know if I should teach them and if I should, I don’t exactly know how to give a 1st piano lesson. I can’t exactly remember my 1st piano lesson.
If you say I am not qualified, fine! I know I am not. If you can help that would be greatly appreciated!
If you are truely gifted and have a love of piano and teaching you’d probably be great at it! Good Luck! Go for it!

It would be pretty awesome if you did that at such a young age. But no offense I wouldnt let a 14 year old teach my kids.

It always helps to start learning note names. Help them to identify even just a few to start out with. After a first lesson if they can find Middle C and then a few others, they will be on their way. Also start simple rhythms on a single note or on one or two notes. Example: two measures of 4/4 quarter notes on C, then alternate between C and F and do patterns.
If you are looking for a book, I recommend the tree books. I don’t remember the name (I used them when I started lessons). They are red, yellow, and green and it is something like the learning tree or along that line. After a while you can move to something like Dozen A Day and eventually the Thompson series.
I think those are really good books for learning. If you get those, look through them. They will give lesson ideas since they walk you through step by step.
Good luck!
