are there any piano books for autistic children?

By Sheryl ·

my 11 yr old nephew is autistic and we bought him a piano in hopes of teaching him. he can’t leave the house to be taught so we decided to teach him at home. are there any books that specialize in autistic children or should we just use the regular piano lesson books.

Even though there are not autistic piano’s, there are programs out there that are designed to help our special kiddo’s learn a bit easier. I found a couple sites that are geared towards teaching special needs children to play the piano. I hope this helps!

regular books would be fine, i mean they don’t make an autistic piano. Not trying to be cruel.

If I were you I would first attempt to teach with a regular piano book. Just because he is autistic doesn’t mean that he isn’t capable of learning piano just like any other 11 year old. Piano books are fairly inexpensive, so I would get just a regular piano book for beginners. If he has a lot of trouble with it then try a different program. Good Luck!

have you tried contacting local piano instructors to see if anyone in your area will come to your home–i know a piano instructor that used to do that until he built a studio into his home–and his child has autism–so he would be willing to accommodate someone-

have you tried a local/state autism society–they may know of instructors that have worked with other families with autism–

if nothing else–maybe you can meet with an instructor yourself and get guidance

schools for autism often have music teachers that may be able to guide you/offer after school at home lessons–there was a girl in a school i worked at that had private piano lessons from the school music teacher
