Do self-employed jobs count as work experience for undergraduate college applications?

By Sheryl ·

I plan on teaching piano to children (just like tutoring, but I’m teaching piano instead), but since I’ll be doing it by myself and earning money with cash, not paychecks, would I be allowed to write that job experience down for college applications?

Absolutely, teaching is teaching regardless. If you do that though you may just want ask the persons that you are teaching to write a brief letter and make it part of your policy to get some written feed back that you can add to your resume. Good luck with your career hope all goes well for you.

Of course! Experience is experience whether you are on a payroll or get paid "under the table". Instead of listing a former boss or manager as your reference, list a couple of your favorite clients.

Definitely. It might even be a bonus because it shows initiative.
